Open Gov Hub Blog: October 2023

Building and Rebuilding: Unveiling the Highlights of Open Gov Hub's 11th Anniversary and October's Events

As we reflect on the month of October 2023, we can't help but celebrate the vibrant tapestry of events and milestones that unfolded within our dynamic space.

This month marked the 11th Anniversary of the Open Gov Hub, aptly dubbed the "Steel Year," symbolizing building and strength.

We are thrilled to announce one of our overarching themes for the next year: "Building and Reinforcing," emphasizing the power of community, networks, and partnerships in fostering positive change.

Exciting October 2023 Highlights at the Open Gov Hub

Open Gov Hub's 11th Anniversary: October was a special month as we commemorated the 11th Anniversary of the Open Gov Hub. When planning this event, it was difficult to imagine being able to top our 10th Anniversary Celebration. Instead, we focused on reflecting on what has made the Open Gov Hub so successful over the years: our community. This milestone serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of our community members and partners. The "Steel Year" signifies our collective strength and dedication to building a more open and accountable world. It also signals our refocus on our community and network. In 2024, we'll be doubling down on our efforts to continue building and cultivating an already vibrant and powerful network. The Hub will be more proactive in the DC Community, in creating new partnerships, and in reinforcing the foundations of our current ones.

FACT Coalition Report Launch: "Dirty Money and the Destruction of the Amazon": The FACT Coalition hosted a thought-provoking report launch that delved into the intricate connection between illicit financial flows and the environmental degradation of the Amazon. The event sparked crucial conversations on the intersection of financial transparency and environmental conservation.

October also celebrated The Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Policy (CAIDP) 5th anniversary of the "Universal Guidelines for AI." This milestone underscores the ongoing efforts to ensure ethical and responsible development and global deployment of artificial intelligence technologies.

The Hub was also home to the GloCoCo Networking Event: Communications in the Age of AI.

Prosperity Now's "Racial Wealth Divide Profile Workshop": Prosperity Now hosted an insightful workshop focusing on the racial wealth divide. The event provided a platform for engaging discussions and collaborative efforts to address and bridge the gaps in wealth distribution among different communities.

Regularly Scheduled Coworking and Member-Hosted Events

In addition to these milestone events, the Open Gov Hub continued to buzz with its regularly scheduled Coworking-Member Events. From the ever-popular PBJ Day to the casual Networking Happy Hours, our members enjoyed a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere. Member-hosted events, such as Feedback Labs' "Labstorms," added to our community's rich tapestry of knowledge sharing.

Member Appreciation Week was a fun time as well, with giveaways and gifts for our "Hubbers"!

Looking Ahead to November and December

As we venture into November, we are excited to host events for Accountable Now, International Idea, and our Global Affiliate Hub, Open Gov Hub Albania. Stay tuned for thought-provoking discussions and collaborative initiatives.

A sneak peek into December reveals that the Open Gov Hub will be hosting a Cowork & Care Canned Food Drive. Join us in spreading warmth and kindness during the festive season by contributing to this meaningful initiative, and enjoy a day of work from our state-of-the-art Coworking Space.

As a reminder, all this programming was free to our members! You can learn more here about joining our community and enjoying these incredible benefits.

Thank you to all our members, partners, and friends who continue to make the Open Gov Hub a thriving hub of collaboration, innovation, and positive change.
